******************************************* Entrevista Reid Young - www.eltercero.net ******************************************* Versión en castellano: http://www.eltercero.net/2008/12/16/entrevistamos-a-reid-young-starmennet-y-mother-3-fan-translation/ #1 First of all, why don't you introduce yourself to the readers? I mean, tell us important things about you, such as your favourite food or your favourite thing. Name: Reid Dog’s Name: Ruby Favorite Food: Pad Thai Favorite Thing: Wuv #2 You guys finished Mother 3 translation after two years of non-stop work, are you finally resting now? Since I was technically the ‘PR’ guy all of my work happened at the beginning and end of the project, and almost none of it had to do with the translation itself. Tomato and Jeffman were the ones who were constantly pouring time into it, especially during the spring/summer. And, yes, they were both thrilled to get some ‘time off’. #3 The translation just looks totally professional, what can you tell us about the process? Tomato took care of the actual translation on his own (except for misc things which he entrusted to Chewy), and since he does it for a living, he’s got his own crazy methods. Frankly, I have no idea how he manages to be so productive. As for the hacking, that was very much a group endeavor. I set up a project management site for the hacking team to use, although in retrospect they probably would have been just as happy with a simple forum #4 Tomato said that there was about 70,000 downloads in the first two days of the release, and now there a lot of translation teams for several languages. Did you expect this kind of response from fans? Actually, yeah, we saw it coming. Based on the amount of traffic that was coming into the blog throughout 2007 and 2008, we knew that it was going to be huge when we released it. And, sure enough, the downloads came flooding in. Thankfully, sarencele and ROFISH had the server prepped to handle the flood of visitors. #5 Mother 3 Handbook has been a fantastic surprise, how are things going with it? Can't wait for seeing a photo of the Courage Badge. The Handbook is coming along, Jonk (the book’s designer) has actually gone part-time at his normal job so that he can focus on it. We’re putting everything we can into the book and think people will be as thrilled with it as we are. We’re excited to see the courage badges, too — they’re currently in production at the mint and should be in our hands by early January! #6 After all of this hard work, what's next? Tomato and I are kinda talking about that right now, though I’m so busy with the Fangamer Store and the Handbook that I don’t have much time to devote to anything else. Tomato has been spending a lot of time setting up his personal blog at http://tomato.fobby.net , so you can see what he’s up to over there. He’s definitely got plans, but I’ll leave it to him to reveal them. #7 Any word from Nintendo about all of this? None! They’ve been very gracious, considering that they could have shut us down with a simple look. Even though they refuse to acknowledge the MOTHER series outside of Japan, they deserve some credit for not interfering with the project. #8 And any from Itoi? Nope. This one we’re a little disappointed about, but knowing how busy he is, it’s not very surprising. #9 Last one, a fan-question: what's your favourite moment in Mother3? And yes, I know it's hard to choose, don't even try to say that ;) When you’re walking down the tunnel and you hear the Saturn Valley music in the background. I was so pumped when I heard that the first time, it didn’t even matter that I couldn’t tell what was happening #10 That's all, thanks very much for the interview and for all the effort you guys do for Earthbound/Mother series. Thanks to you and the rest of the fans for making it worthwhile
